University Medical Centre Maribor is a public healthcare institution, founded in 1799, providing secondary and tertiary healthcare service in north-eastern Slovenia. The founder of the University Medical Centre Maribor is the Republic of Slovenia. The hospital employs more than 3600 staff members, 596 of whom are medical doctors and 1836 associated healthcare professionals. Annually, about 60,000 patients are treated as inpatients and almost 400,000 as outpatients in different sub-speciality units.

UKC Maribor is a holder of an ISO 9001 quality certificate. It serves as a teaching and training facility for the Medical Faculty and Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Maribor and as a postgraduate teaching and training facility for trainees in all medical subspecialties.

The hospital places a great emphasis on scientific research, publicity and pedagogical work. They actively participate in numerous domestic and foreign congresses, have published articles in reputable professional journals, and are co-authors of various professional textbooks. They actively participate in the pedagogical process of students of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Health Sciences.

UKC Maribor cooperates with the Ministry of Medicine and with other institutions (University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Hospital Celje, Hospital Murska Sobota and Croatian Hospital Vuk Vrhovac Zagreb) in the pedagogical process and is included in national and international research projects and assignments.
